Tar and chip

Driveway tarring: gravel and bitumen emulsion carried out by SC Asphalte

itumen emulsion with chippings is a durable and cost-effective solution for surfacing driveways, access roads, courtyards, and private roads. Its natural appearance, created by the stone chippings, blends seamlessly with all types of outdoor landscaping.

The surface is created by applying a hot 69% bitumen emulsion, immediately followed by a layer of stone chippings, which are then compacted to produce a strong and long-lasting finish.

Depending on the ground conditions, the intended use, and the desired finish, we install single surface dressing (single coat), double surface dressing (double coat), or triple surface dressing (triple coat). Each system is selected to provide the best balance of durability, appearance, and cost for your project.

At SC ASPHALTE, we will help you choose the solution that best suits your project, ensuring a high-quality, long-lasting surface.

Gravel coating: ideal for all your access developments

Bitumen emulsion with chippings is an excellent alternative to asphalt for those looking for a more natural appearance and a more cost-effective surfacing solution.

Because the finish is created using natural stone chippings, you can choose from a wide range of colours and aggregatesto suit the style of your property. Popular options include grey, white, beige, red, Gave blend, Madrague, and many more.

This wide choice of finishes allows you to create a unique outdoor space while enjoying a durable, attractive surface that blends naturally with its surroundings.

At SC ASPHALTE, we'll help you select the aggregate that best complements your project, your home, and your budget.

Proper Preparation for a Long-Lasting Surface : the application

As with any outdoor surfacing, the quality of bitumen emulsion with chippings depends first and foremost on the preparation of the base. Proper ground preparation ensures better long-term performance and helps reduce the risk of deformation or unwanted vegetation growing through the surface.

In most cases, we carry out excavation and levelling, followed by the installation of a suitable sub-base to create a stable and durable foundation before applying the final surface.

Depending on the condition of the existing surface, it may also be possible to apply the new surface directly over existing bitumen or a concrete slab, provided the base is suitable.

The finish can then be applied as a single, double, or triple surface dressing, using one or more successive applications of bitumen emulsion and stone chippings. The number of layers is selected according to the existing base, intended use, and requirements of the project. Additional layers can provide greater strength, resistance, and long-term durability.

As every project is different, we carefully assess the site to determine the most suitable solution and ensure a high-quality, long-lasting result.
